Under Ontario's Accessible Employment Law, businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees must make their employment practices accessible to meet the needs of employees and job applicants with disabilities starting January 1, 2016. As of January 1, 2017, all Ontario businesses and non profits with 1-49 employees must also comply. So regardless of your business size, it is time to get ready for these new Ontario Accessibility regulations.
The regulations affect six elements of your business:
• Developing Talent
• Workplace Information
• Accommodation Plans
• Return to Work
How do you count the number of employees your business has?
Count all full-time, part-time, seasonal and contract workers. With most employees, you will need to count them if you:
Do not count volunteers and independent contractors. However, you are responsible for ensuring that the services they provide on your behalf follow the rules of Ontario’s accessibility standards. You may need to ensure these individuals are trained to meet the requirements
